What exactly are fruit powders?

Fruit powders are powders made (finely ground) from freeze-dried fruit. In a previous article, we mentioned that freeze-dried fruit is fruit that has undergone a freeze-drying process treatment. All the moisture is then removed from the fresh fruit by freezing under a specific vacuum. A specific technique that we would like to explain in more detail in another article.

What makes fruit powders different from freeze-dried fruit? That's the texture and the way you can apply them. Fruit powders, like freeze-dried fruit, are light, intense in flavor, packed with nutrients and have a long shelf life. Because fruit powders are finely ground, they no longer have a brittle texture.

Different kinds of fruit powders

Virtually all fruits can be freeze-dried and can therefore be ground into fruit powders. Bananas, raspberries, strawberries, mangoes and so on are perfect for this purpose. Did you know that the freeze-drying process preserves up to 97%* of all nutrients? So only the water is removed in the process of freeze-drying. No additional nutrients are lost when freeze-drying fruits are ground.

Fruit powders consist entirely of the substances naturally present in the fruit, so no other excipients or sugars are added. The product has a longer shelf life due to its shape and the lack of water.

The unique taste and texture makes fruit powders suitable for multiple applications. We'll tell you more about them in the paragraph below.

Using fruit powders in recipes

The brittle and crunchy texture makes freeze-dried fruit an ideal snack. Fruit powders are not suitable for this purpose due to their shape. Like freeze-dried fruit, however, you can easily add fruit powders to your yogurt or cottage cheese breakfast. Yet there is something you can do with fruit powders that you can't do with regular fruit: add it to all your baking! You can use fruit powders to add flavor and color. You then don't have to use added sugars or dyes but add all the goodness and beauty of fruit. And the great thing is, fruit powders have no negative impact on your baking.

Of course, you can always add fruit powders to your favorite smoothie or protein shake too!

Do fruit powders fit into a balanced diet?

As you just read, fruit powders are a tasty addition to your nutrition regimen, and I can tell you that fruit powders contain the same nutrients as fruit. This is because only the water is removed. In addition, fruit powders are low in calories per 100 grams and have no added sugars and other substances.

This makes fruit powders an excellent choice for people who want to watch their calorie intake but continue to enjoy tasty products. Because fruit powders certainly provide a taste explosion! Fruit powders therefore fit perfectly into a balanced diet.

Storing fruit powders

As described earlier in this article, fruit powders have a long shelf life because the water has been removed from the product. To keep fruit powders longer shelf life at home as well, it is important to keep them dry and airtight.
